Ornithology

The wetlands area Pagina nueva 3

The wetlands area, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, has been listed as part of the Ramsar Convention on wetlands of international importance. 329 species of birds have been spotted here, of which 82 nest regularly in the area.

The extensive network of hides makes it easy to watch birds, as well as other pastimes such as photography and  digiscoping.

In the Downloads section you can find general information about the Park and routes to follow, as well as the most common species of birds

You can also access here the bird-watching newsletter which is published regularly on Ornitho.cat

Without travelling very far you can visit two other natural parks where you can spot other species of birds.

At Cap de Creus you can observe seabirds and others that nest in the cliffs, and the Serra de l’Albera (rising to a maximum of 1,257 metres ) is a good place to watch highland species.

You'll find birds like the ones below, which are hard to spot in the countries of northern Europe :

"After talking to your representatives David and Jan at the Rutland Bird Fair last year, who recommended your campsite as an ideal situation from which to visit the neighbouring reserve - Aiguamolls de l'Emporda

We arrived on the day you opened this year and stayed until April 11th.  The campsite was excellent and cycling in and around the site and into the reserve was safe, easy and very convenient.

The reserve was fantastic and in spite of the fact that it was rather early in the migration season, we managed to see 95 different species in five days.  We will certainly return."
